Contemplating Death and Impermanence
What is it you need to do before you die?
What, in fact, do you really need at all?
Are you content, at ease, when death comes without warning?
These are not popular questions or topics of conversation. In fact, most of us, avoid discussing death and the reality of impermance as much as possible. However, avoiding discussing death does not prevent death or delay it. Ignoring the reality of impermanence does not prevent the pain of its existence. What would happen if, instead of avoiding death, you invited and contemplated it? What if it were true that when you stop avoiding death, life begins to have a vibrancy and energy that you haven’t known before?
The meditations introduced in these teachings have been the entry point to the Buddhist practice of waking up fully in one’s life for thousands of years. These meditations are guaranteed to bring you into direct contact with your own being and your own knowing. The price is your willingness to look at the realities of birth, old age, sickness and death. The result is most often the energizing of your purpose and the renewal of your spirit.
In this program you will learn these meditations as a way to build your capacity and insight for your own life. Woven through our discussions and practice will be the practical magic of examining how our minds and bodies relate with the language of Chinese medicine as well as the traditional Buddhist meditation instructions.
If in these times of great change and great power, you have been wondering what is most important to do, please consider that once you contemplate death, your own knowing on the matter could become much more clear. Once you are clear, then you can be of great benefit to others. In the end, contemplating your own death and the impermanence of your circumstances leads to a more available heart, a heart that is clear, open and available anytime and anywhere.
